What we keep, and why.

Ordering a cake means telling us a little about yourself. Here is exactly what happens to it.

Online ordering isn’t open yet.Right now the order builder sends nothing and stores nothing: what you type stays in your browser. This page describes how it will work once ordering opens.

What we ask for

Your name and email address, and a phone number if you choose to give one.

The cake you want, the date, the message on it, your design brief, and any allergies or dietary needs you tell us about.

That is all. We don’t use advertising trackers or sell anything to anyone.

Why

To make the right cake for the right day, to reach you about it, and to keep you safe if you’ve told us about an allergy.

We won’t add you to a mailing list because you ordered a cake.

Who sees it

Aysel, and the person who looks after this website for her. Nobody else.

Orders are kept in a database run by Supabase, on servers in Canada. When online payment opens, card payments will be handled by Stripe: your card number goes to them and never reaches us. Emails about your order are sent through Resend, which handles them only to deliver them.

Stripe and Resend are American companies. So while your order itself sits in Canada, your email address and the fact that you ordered will pass through the United States, where American courts and authorities can require a company to hand things over. We would rather tell you that than let the word “Canada” do more work than it should.

The database can only be read by our own server — there is no way in from a browser. Aysel signs in with a one-time link sent to an address on a short list, so there is no password to guess, leak or lose.

If your information ever gets out when it shouldn’t, we will tell you what happened and what to do about it.

How long we keep it

The record of the sale — your name, the date, what you bought, what you paid — is kept for six years after the end of the tax year it falls in. The Canada Revenue Agency requires that.

The rest is not a tax record and we don’t keep it that long. Your allergy note is there so we can bake your cake safely; that job is finished when you collect it, and the note goes with it.

A date you held but never paid for is released automatically, and an order that never went ahead is deleted within a year.

Your say

Ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and we will — unless the law requires us to keep it, in which case we’ll tell you so. We’ll answer within thirty days, and it costs you nothing.

You can tell us at any time to stop using what you’ve given us. If your cake is already in the oven we may have to finish the job first, but we’ll say so rather than carry on quietly.

If we get it wrong

Tell us. Aysel, who owns Ajsel’s, is the person responsible for everything on this page, and she reads what comes in. We’ll look into it and write back.

If our answer doesn’t satisfy you, you can take it to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada — priv.gc.ca, or 1-800-282-1376. You don’t need our permission to do that, and it doesn’t cost anything.

Questions, or a request about your information: hello@ajsel.com.
